Poetry is the one element of writing that impacts the emotions of writers more than any other. The heart speaks the language of love that is best expressed by poems. Not sure if any of us are right, we think we are, but whose standards are we going by.
Read other peoples love poems for inspiration and ideas, but remember, don't copy, the idea is to find your own angle on your relationship. A poem should be written subtly and ensure it is not too emotional. To the poet, he should have an aim with his poem, know where he wants to take his reader.
You must merely know where to look and what you want to say. It can be framed, written in a card, spoken over the phone, recited one to one or even emailed if time is not on your side.
